A Case Study: Rebirth of New Orleans After Katrina. An Opportunity to Re-inventRebuilding Community Takes More than Bricks and Mortar. Side effects go beyond physical damage. When natural disaster strikes, the spirit of entire communities is also devastated; cultural areas rich in history and generations of living patterns are displaced in one fell swoop. We do not feel that a neighborhood of stilt houses on existing grade lots creates a nurturing village. Instead, we propose an elevated peninsula community as the most sustainable solution. Pride of place is a strong component in  reinvention. The possibility of increased environmental education and job training, as well as economic and environmental sustainability, may be the conceived potential of this solution.
